Schools for the environment program is to be launched in Székely land with the support of MOL

The Environmental Partnership Foundation of Csíkszereda, with the support of Mol, intends to involve the children and the youth into the new program on planting trees and creating green areas.

The program consists of two parts - said László Potozky, Director of the Environmental Partnership Foundation, which is regarded the key financer of environment protection programs in the region. He added that in addition to financing the implementation of projects aiming to plant trees and to create green areas, they also planned to organise drawing and collage creating competition.

As the inviter of the program believes, it would be desirable - taking into consideration the climate and relief of Romania - if woody areas would cover 40-45% of the total area of the country. As a contrary, only 26 percent of the country’s total area is covered by wood, which is even remarkably lower than the 30 percent European average. They wish to improve this situation through the program.

The foundation envisaged 24 thousand Lei, which is 1.65 million HUF for supporting the green belt improvement projects and 990 Lei (as much as 68 thousand HUF) for awarding the winners of the drawing and collage competition. The awarded drawings will be exhibited on the occasion of the Day of the Earth (22 April 2006).
The competition, invited for the students of the schools of Hargita county, will commence on the 1st of March and lasts until the 10th of April.

Éva Csog, Mol’s PR Coordinator in Romania, emphasized the following at the press conference explaining the program: "We would like that in addition to planting the trees, the participation in the competition shall be important also in respect of bringing closer communities of the schools”.

As she said the project was a part of a regional action with the total value of 6 million HUF. Besides Romania, similar programs are in progress also in Hungary and Slovakia.
