Year 2007 World Champion: Gábor Talmácsi (Hungary)
Hungary’s first motorcycle racing world champion, Gábor Talmácsi was congratulated by his sponsors and members of the press at a press conference held at Hotel Kempinski in Budapest on Tuesday. Szabolcs I. Ferencz, Vice President for Communications on behalf of MOL – Talmácsi’s chief sponsor – and Stefano Favaro, his manager presented Talma with his own World Championship Gold Medallist race motorcycle as a surprise, since not even the genius rider knew that his racer was shipped to Hungary.
Gábor Talmácsi ran in his first motorcycle race at the age of four, and by 16 he was part of the European Championship circuit. Talma debuted among motorcycle racing's elite seven years ago, achieving six race wins and coming in second or third sixteen time to date, collecting a total of 766 points, and until Sunday, his best result was the World Championship bronze medal from the year 2005 competition.
He reached the top as Bancaja Aspar Team’s rider on November 4, 2007, winning the World Championship gold medal in the 125cc category with 282 points, beating fellow Aprilia team member Hector Faubel of Spain (277 points), and KTM racer Tomoyoshi Koyama from Japan (193 points).
Talmácsi is the World Champion of a professional sport with a keen following all over the world, and the fact that thanks to Talma, Hungary is the 20th country (13th in the 125 cubic centimetre category) that can be proud of a gold medal winner in the history of world championship motorcycle racing is a good example of the exceptionality and merit of his performance. Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo finished top of the ranks in the 250 cubic centimetre category in 2007, while Australian Casey Stoner won the MotoGP series. Hungary's most successful and best known motorsportsman will continue his career in the 125cc category as Aspar Team's number one rider in 2008, while in 2009 he will have the opportunity to try his skills in the 250cc World Championship series.
In addition to bringing his race motorbike to Hungary, MOL congratulated Talmácsi for his title of World Champion with an independent press campaign, whose catch line speaks for itself: “Talma’s Success Is Hungary’s Success.” At the press conference, our World Champion received congratulations from Viktor Molnár, Ford Central and Eastern Europe Ltd’s regional director, as well as Pál Kutvölgyi, co-owner, and general manager for marketing and communications of Brokernet Ltd. apart from Szabolcs Ferencz I., representing – MOL Talmácsi’s platinum chief sponsor – as its Vice President for Communications. Péter Tóth A., sponsorship manager at Magyar Telecom Plc.’s mobile services line of business announced that T-Mobile will join Talmácsi Gábor, and Faster Management that represents him, as a communications partner starting from the 2008 season.
