On the most recent Steering Committee meeting of Nabucco Gas Pipeline International GmbH, on 27th March 2008, the Director of MOL Gas, Mr. Benjamin Lakatos, made a suggestion to set up a Political Supporting Body.
This would give the needed momentum and provide harmonised political appearance as well as political support to the project. In addition to the representatives of the 6 member countries of Nabucco, MOL suggested to also invite the representatives of European Union and Azerbaijan into the Political Supporting Body.
The Political Supporting Body would accelerate the project`s implementation, it would help European Union level decision-making and provide political support in lobbying. At the same time, it would be a very important facilitator in order to support the Nabucco Partners from financial and gas source point of view, as well as to ease the permits obtaining or exemptions.
Nabucco Gas Pipeline International GmbH aims at establishing the 3 300-km-long gas pipeline, which will deliver 31 bcm p.a. natural gas from the Caspian Sea region to Europe.
