Two bronze medals at Gerevich-Kovács-Kárpáti Sabre GP

The Gerevich-Kovács-Kárpáti Masculin Sabre Individual Grand Prix and the Team World Cup for Mol Cup was held this weekend in Budapest. The Hungarian sabre attendance finally won two bronze medals.

At this particular event the competitors came from18 different countries, and among them 13 Hungarians. The field was very tough, and 29 from the 32 best fencers of the international rank showed up in Budapest. In the individual category as the best Hungarian featured the only 19 years old Nikolász Iliász who was not even a seeded fencer, and has won the bronze medal. This is his best result among adults, although he is still a junior competitor. The winner was Dumitrescu from Romania.

On Sunday at the Team competition the Hungarian sabre team, which is second on the world top list, beat the teams of Poland and USA, whereupon at the semi final was beaten by the world champion Romanian team, and became bronze medallist as well.

The Tamás Decsi, Áron Szilágyi, Balázs Lontay, Nikolász Iliász crew is a collective young team. Iliász (19) and Szilágyi (20) are the Hungarian sabre’s huge hope and trust, told the specialist. Both of them where a newfound of the legend, the master couch: György Gerevich, and in the past 3 years they were members of the MOL Talent Support program.
