Ensuring SEVESO compliance Ensuring legal compliance is one of our key intentions, as defined in MOL Group’s HSE Policy, primarily for safety reasons. After revision of the Seveso II Directive we immediately started our MOL Group level Seveso project to comply with new requirements. During the following three years we revised the existing Seveso documentation (Safety Reports, Risk Assessments, Emergency Plans, Prevention Programs, etc.) of all our hazardous operations and compiled 7 new Safety Reports as a consequence of the lowering of thresholds for hazardous compounds present at Seveso sites. All these activities were performed by our research subsidiary, Slovnaft VÚRUP a.s., using the same software and high technical level methodology created in very close cooperation with state authorities. The project scope was very wide - covering 29 sites in three companies (MOL Nyrt, Slovnaft a.s. and SPC s.r.o). The variety of the 178 hazardous operations was also diverse and included logistic terminals, exploration, refining and petrochemical operations. During 2009 we continued using the effective and authority-recognized, pre-established process to maintain legal compliance and to further suggest solutions for mitigation of high process risk through revisions and updates of our Seveso documentation. The same approach was also used for new investments, starting as early as during the planning phase. We hope that realization of all these activities will result in better prevention of industrial accidents at our establishments and in an effective limitation of their impacts on human life, environment and property. The fact that during the last year there has not been a “SEVESO type” accident at MOL Group sites can be taken as evidence to support this. |
