Working Conditions

Maintenance activities are ensuring that the pre-requirements for the day-to-day activities are available and are in good working order, thus supporting and further improving the operational effectiveness.

The 2008 Facility Management building renewal plan made improvements in 30% of our premises, just as in 2007. Long-term investments, pilot projects and SD orientated real estate carrier plans all helped implementing the SD targets and to reduce the risk of service shortfalls.

In 2008 a new methodology of SD qualification had been developed for the buildings and projects in order to improve SD conditions and also to meet future regulatory requirements. We qualified our buildings and implemented projects according to this self-developed method.

The 2008 reconstruction plan involved more than one hundred SD-related projects affecting buildings, laboratories, meeting rooms and a variety of communal areas such as dressing-rooms, bus stops, and bicycle-depositories. As a result, building renovations and substantial interior refits have altogether renewed more than 300 workplaces. These modern computerised workplaces are developed in line with the latest fire and labour safety regulations, are much better ergonomically and have much more efficient energy use than the old workplaces ever did. Where it is necessary, these workplaces ensure free ways for disadvantaged people.
