'Safe traffic along a life path' program

'Safe traffic along a life path' program

The Hungarian Automobile Club initiated a training program, with MOL support, in the form of a special training truck in 2006. Events within the nationwide program are organised in various plaza parking lots, where both practical and theoretical training sessions are held focusing onto traffic rules.

The main elements of this program include:
  • Participating in traffic for expectant mothers;
  • What to do: escorting children to nursery, kindergarten or school;
  • Traffic safety training for elementary school students;
  • Further training in traffic safety for holders of driving license;
The special truck typically spends several days in one-one city, where parents can also test and develop their skills and knowledge, in addition to the programs pre-organised for schools.
Children can get acquainted with simulated real-life traffic situations accompanied with dangers, similarly to those they may face in practice, and they may acquire the basic physical laws that rule such situations and, if violated, accidents may easily happen. The program begins with introducing the key rules and physical laws applicable onto pedestrian and bicycle traffic, and showing films presenting important messages, then these skills and information are, of course, demonstrated also in practice either on the training course for bicycles or inside the specifically designed and equipped truck, where children can sit next to the driver in a simulation seat and „act” as the real driver.

In addition to provide training for the children, providing further training in safe driving technique for adults is, of course, a key element of the program. The training first brushes up some basic rules from the Traffic Code and theoretically repeats the key driving skills, then participants may exercise the techniques of prevention and avoidance of dangerous traffic situations using the unique mobile driving technique training course (emergency braking on dry and slippery road surfaces; how to avoid frontal crash (simulation); power braking at 40 km/h speed on slippery surface; to avoid objects on the road within braking distance; how to slow down and stop the car using hand brake, if the ordinary brake system goes out of order, etc).
