The giant Mátrakeresztes wooden spoon

Uniqueness that reminds us of a particular aid project. The longest wooden spoon in Hungary was produced in Mátrakeresztes.

The longest wooden spoon in Hungary was made in Mátrakeresztes on August 14, 2005. The idea of making the giant wooden spoon originated from a Hungarian Interchurch Aid revenue-generating project. The 3.5 metre-long spoon was created by László Erdélyi, a wooden spoon manufacturer.

Help for wooden spoon manufacturing families

After the floods, MOL Group donated HUF 10 million to make possible the replacement of personal belongings of 17 families who make wooden spoons for a living, and to re-install traditional wooden spoon manufacturing equipment in the village.

Long-term development of Mátrakeresztes

Besides providing flood relief, the Hungarian Interchurch Aid organisation has built a communications centre worth HUF 3 million. Among other services, the centre offers advanced computer skills courses to the middle-aged and youth.
