Ágnes Szávay

There is an internationally listed Hungarian competitor on the women's pro tennis circuit: Ágnes Szávay's results were recognized not only in Hungary but also abroad. In 2007 she exploded onto the tennis scene, and in 2008 joined the team only the elite can belong to, and this sports team was sponsored by MOL.

In addition, the WTA, the international organization for women’s tennis, voted Ágnes Szávay the most improved player of the year for 2007, and Sports Illustrated, the prominent American sports magazine, also awarded her this title. Her performance was breathtaking: she was placed 308th in October 2006, but then in 2007 she skyrocketed from 189th to 19th place on the world ranking list. Sports expert Jon Wertheim wrote that the Vasas tennis player could be the next internationally recognized Hungarian star.

It is indisputable that Szávay arose to the highest ranks with her outstanding performance. Based on the sports journalists’ votes, she was the sportswoman of the year in Hungary in 2007 (when Gábor Talmácsi was the sportsman of the year), after she won the WTA tournament in Palermo and Beijing, and played in the quarterfinals at the US Open – just to list her most outstanding sports results.
