The Dakar Rally, which demands enormous efforts from both machine and man, has been the marathon of the motorsports. A stalwart sponsor might contribute to crossing the finish line by providing a stable background – just as MOL has done for nearly ten years.
Of course, as a fuel manufacturing company MOL stands very close to the world of technical sports, so it is not surprising that the relationship between MOL and the Dakar Teams has a history of deep cooperation. Balázs Szalay, a member of the first Hungarian team to finish the Dakar Rally, could participate in the competition because he was sponsored by MOL in 2000.
Later, cooperation was expanded, and Sándor Kiss and the Technosport Team on the Hungarian side joined in, and a regional MOL Dakar Team was formed to take part in the races for many years – in other words, Romanian, Slovakian, and Serbian "motorheads" entered the competition together with the Hungarian units. There was a year when a group from Croatia joined the team as well. With this type of cooperation, MOL endeavored to represent the cross-border corporate cooperation in this sport with a team that would simultaneously symbolize the company itself.
