Logistics

The most important task of Logistics is to execute the storage and distribution of finished and semi-finished petroleum products on an optimum cost-time basis. The Logistics organisation, which is also responsible for maintaining quality of product from the refinery right through to the customer’s storage tank, operates as an integral part of the supply chain.

MOL logistics activities – as in other organisations – are characterised by constant improvement. As a result of comprehensive technical upgrades during the early 90’s, our storage depots are now in compliance in every respect with stringent EU environmental specifications. Both the loading systems and the tanker lorry pool represent the latest advances in technology. Overall logistics operations are supported by a state-of-the-art management information system.

The Logistics organization has an important role in ensuring customer satisfaction with MOL Group products and services. The efficient and thorough-going performance of its experts, upgrades implemented across the activity, its innovative mentality, have together contributed significantly  to MOL Group’s recently strengthened market position, under ever-increasing competition in the region.

Logistics activities are performed in co-ordination with RMD’s three other major units – Marketing, Downstream Development and Refining - through its Supply Chain Management (SCM) system. The Logistics organisation is responsible for the operational management of MOL’s feedstock supply, for stock management, storage and transportation tasks related to imported and own-produced hydrocarbons, as well as for providing logistics support to trading and regional commercial activities. The majority of crude oil processed by MOL Group refineries arrives through Friendship Pipeline, from Russia. In addition, crude oil is received from the Middle East and the Mediterranean, through the Adria pipeline.

A MOL business goal is to gradually replace so-called “bulk” sales – sales in large quantities to resellers without providing any other services – with direct supplies to filling stations and end-users. This would mean that a large number of customers would each be provided with relatively small quantities of product. This will require appropriate localised logistics facilities (storage depots and means of transportation) and the MOL Group wholesale fuel storage depot at Korneuburg was established precisely for this purpose. The plant is close to Vienna, can be supplied by both barge and rail from Százhalombatta and Bratislava refineries, and from Komárom storage depot.
MOL Plc. depot network covers the whole territory of Hungary. To get more information about the depots, available products and opening time please visit Depot network summary.

In addition, Logistics also organises and manages quality-focused customer service in compliance with requirements set out in commercial agreements, as well as ensuring optimal cost and capacity logistics operations.

Logistics operates a quality management system that encompasses every activity and location in the organisation, and has been by ISO 9001 Standard certified, since 1996.

Road Transportation

MOL Group companies are dealing with road transportation of fuels in 11 countries of Europe, black products (bitumen, fuel oils) in 7 countries, and also chemical products of petroleum processing in several countries.

Our Secondary Distribution system crosses the country-borders, making use of the benefits and synergies arising from EU membership, in order to realize road supply in a cost effective manner.

MOL Group companies own and/or operate road transportation fleets in 5 countries. Besides this, all the member companies of the Group employ contracted freight companies, being selected trough Group level bidding process. Selection of contractors was based on high level HSE and technical requirements, covering also product security (e.g. reliable measuring equipments, electronic sealing). Tracking and tracing (via GPS) and digital data transfer (GPRS communication) was required as well. All these, MOL Group level standards were implemented and are in use at MOL Group member-companies.

Besides above requirements, we expect our road transportation partners-contractors to apply sufficient process management systems, meeting the requirements of MOL Group. These Road Transportation Management Systems (RTMS) of Contractors are regularly audited by international expert teams of Group Road Transportation (Cross-National Audit project).
