Road Bitumen

Bitumen products are mainly used for road construction purposes. Bitumen is the adhesive used for asphalt toppings and bituminous layers of roadway structures, jointing the inorganic components of asphalt (sand, broken stone, ballast, most frequently limestone dust).

The most important features of bitumen products are:

  • Wet totally and adhere well to stone particles.
  • Have a wide temperature range of usability.
  • Do not become fragile and susceptible to cracking at low temperatures.
  • Properly heat resistant; do not undergo structural changes at the temperature of hot asphalt production.
  • Suitable for the laying of durable asphalt topping, age only at a slow rate.

Modified road bitumen

Modified bitumen products satisfy the set of requirements for bitumen at a significantly higher level than conventional bitumen from road construction point of view. The use of modified bitumen primarily on roads subjected to high traffic loads is justified also by the typical climatic conditions in Hungary.
