Refining & Marketing

Refining & Marketing

The Refining & Marketing Division is responsible for the purchase and refining of crude oil, other refinery feedstock, logistics and the wholesale distribution of petroleum products. It aims to increase efficiency and sales by exploiting its integrated supply chain management system, and to provide top quality products by leveraging its excellent asset base and the geographical composition of its markets within the region.

Since 2001, the total supply chain approach with its associated procedures and decision-making processes have gradually and successfully been introduced in the Refining & Marketing Division. One outcome of change over the last decade is that competition in the oil industry now lies primarily between supply chains of integrated oil companies rather than between refineries, products, or salesmen. Fast response to market change, focus on customer needs and close coordination of the crude oil supply-refining-distribution-marketing sequence have become vital competitive factors.

Since January 1, 2004, all MOL and Slovnaft activities have been integrated. MOL Group has been able not only to maintain but also to slightly improve its regional market position, through effective coordination of MOL and Slovnaft refineries, integrated logistic operations and sales efforts, and increases in supply chain efficiency, using each other's best practices, all in a intensifying competitive environment.

Refining

The Refining Segment operates five refineries located in Hungary, Slovakia, Croatia and North-Italy, providing a total refining capacity of 23.5 million tons of crude oil distillation per year, or 470,000 bbl/day. Our strategic aim is to further developing all its refineries, increasing the ratio of top quality motor fuel products and exploiting all the opportunities for organic growth on the basis of our excellent downstream knowledge. Our top priorities also include compliance with the latest environmental regulations and major projects aim at improving environmental cleanliness and product quality.

Logistics

The most important task of logistics is to execute the storage and distribution of finished and semi-finished petroleum products on an optimum cost-time basis. The Logistics organisation, which is also responsible for maintaining quality of product from the refinery right through to the customer’s storage tank, operates as an integral part of the supply chain.
