Influence of automotive industry developments on the future fuel demand structures

Based on the MOL’s Free University Presentation that was held under the title Improvements in the automotive industry – effects on the petroleum market at 24th of August 2008 by Máté Zöldy dr. an interdepartmental workgroup have been established to map the effect of main automotive developments and tendencies on fuel demand structures. Among others the workgroup focused on downsizing, dieselization, alternative combustion processes, electric vehicles, hybridization, car park grow/change trends and economical environment.

Petrochemicals in the oil industry value chain

CO2 capture – New challenge in refinery industry

Emission of CO2 globally has been brought into attention in recent years through declarations such as the Kyoto and recent Bali conventions, and also by industry leaders committing themselves to substantial reductions. One pproach to limiting CO2 emissions from combusting of carbon-based fuels is to capture the CO2 . The purpose of CO2 capture is to produce a concentrated stream that can be readily transported to a CO2 storage site. The CO2 capture and sequestration processes are in the development phase. First of all, it is necessary to become acquainted with the current practice and to identify the results achieved in the leading industrialized countries.

Oil market turbulences

Oil price and pricing are mystified several times. However on longer term the physical market situation determines the price, but short term both physical and derivative (financial) markets should be monitored parallel. Long term price of crude is set by physical supply/demand picture, but on short term financial assets could cause signifi cant deviation in prices from actual and forecasted physical market characteristic.
