Influence of automotive industry developments on the future fuel demand structures

Based on the MOL’s Free University Presentation that was held under the title Improvements in the automotive industry – effects on the petroleum market at 24th of August 2008 by Máté Zöldy dr. an interdepartmental workgroup have been established to map the effect of main automotive developments and tendencies on fuel demand structures. Among others the workgroup focused on downsizing, dieselization, alternative combustion processes, electric vehicles, hybridization, car park grow/change trends and economical environment.

Beyond the economic downturn, European gasoline-diesel demand imbalance will worsen due to the foreseeable automotive developments: automotive diesel demand will continue to rise, whereas gasoline keeps on declining. Summarized our consequences diesel will play more and more important role in the near future extended with alternative combustion systems and alternative fuel resources. The petroleum industry and MOL Group have to pay lot of attention to these to strengthen it positions on the market.
