As the subject of the Pakistan hydrocarbon project, there several exploring and producing wells have been drilled since 1999 by MOL Plc. and Partners. Geological study of the material of these drillings was mainly fulfilled by the geologist team of the Exploration and Production Division at Békásmegyer (HU). Our work is to examine the cuttings
and core samples from petrographic and palaeontological point of view.
Based on these investigations, the determination of the mineralogical composition, the age and the depositional conditions is possible. On the one hand, these results established the reconstruction of the Jurassic-Palaeocene evolution of the Tal block as a sedimentary basin. On the other hand, the simultaneous observation of lithological columns of more wells made possible to trace the lateral and vertical facies changes in more details as it was known from the previous literature. This new knowledge is an essential help in the planning of the exploring and producing wells and the classifying of the rocks in the hydrocarbon system (source rock, reservoir rock or caprock).
